Xugana Island Lodge is situated on its own island, of the same name, in a private concession at the heart of the Okavango Delta, and neighbours the beautiful and diverse Moremi Game Reserve. The Lodge is, arguably, on one of the most spectacular permanent water sites in the delta, overlooking, as it does, the Xugana Lagoon.
Xugana Island Lodge accommodates only 16 guests, in 8 large raised reed and thatch chalets, situated on the shaded fringe of the Island, each with a lagoon view through the shade giving vegetation. The recently refurbished chalets have twin beds, en-suite facilities, with walk in showers, overhead fans and a private deck.
Other facilities at the Lodge include a Boma for al fresco dining, facing out over the lagoon. The lounge, bar and main dining areas are set back under the shady canopy of ebony and mangosteen trees, in open sided thatched buildings. The swimming pool, located amongst the mature gardens in the centre of the island, is a perfect place to relax in the heat of the day.
In terms of activities, guests can enjoy mokoro trips in eco-friendly dugout canoes, combined with walking on surrounding islands in the concession – an excellent way of exploring this diverse area. Birding opportunities are outstanding, particularly so from November to March, as many migrant species visit. Guests may also do some fishing for bream and tiger.
Unfortunately Xugana can not accommodate children under the age of 12 years.
